A Glimpse Inside My Home

Hi Friends!

One of my favorite things to do is peek through homes of others to see the beauty and find new inspiration. Always curious of how people live in case I can learn some new home hack in design, storage, landscape, what family traditions people have and even how they relax.

So I am going to take you on a photo tour of mine.

Welcome!!!

We live in the greater Richmond area here in Virginia. Going on13 years now with a short hiatus to Utah for 18 months.

Come on in !

You are entering through the garage into our mudroom. We recently opened this room up to the room next to it for traffic flow. You can read more in Kitchen Tour 24.

Originally this was a breakfast nook on the floor plan but it never works well that way because this area serves as an entry from the garage and an exit to the backyard, opposite.

We made it into a sitting area and reading nook. I absolutely love having a flexible floor plan. I can imagine many uses for here.

Our home was built in 2018 when open concept was all the rage, still. We have a wide family room attached to the kitchen. This works so great for entertaining.

A white sofa isn’t the most practical thing for my pet loving family but I like the freshness of it among heavier leathers, rich woods and a colorful rug.

One thing we decided to do during our refresh is the removal of a pantry door. We arched the opening and hung curtains for the pretty flow and can be pulled shut in case we get too messy. I look forward to switching them out. You can see our pots and pans hanging from S hooks and pantry canisters line the shelves. If it looks like people live here, mission accomplished!

While I wasn’t hoping for a white kitchen, the cabinets came in that way and once I saw them, I didn’t want to darken them. I went with a rich wall color instead. The wall color is called Elemental AC-400.

Marble is more popular for kitchens today but we have lived with granite a couple of different times and feel like it fits best for the way we cook and clean in the kitchen. The height of our island is 38 3/4 inches. This works for the adults that live here. Our sink is large and deep so less bending over is better for all of us. If I ever build a kitchen again, I will choose to do that height on all of the cabinets. That extra 2 inches feels good.

Having a round to table that can seat 6 gives the four of us lots of room. The conversation flows and food gets around easier. Love a round table! The chairs are from Pottery Barn (old) and the table was thrifted and painted in Lamp Black by General Finishes. Just waxed but wax has to be reapplied every year or so.

Previously a napping room, among other things, currently my office. A room at the front of our home that I thought would look nice with French doors at a diagonal to let light flow through the house. That works but the room ends up being very small. I would change it if I could. The color here is Palmer Green by Benjamin Moore. FBM desk chair, thrifted desk and the desk skirt are left over valances that I didn’t use with the cafe curtains they came with. Applied with small tension rods.

The other room at the front of our house off the foyer is another office. The cabinets are leftover from our kitchen and topped with bookshelves from Pottery Barn. We stacked them together and painted them the same color. An easy built in look.

Recently we painted our staircase walls in a fabulous stripe. I love it!

The stairs lead to bedrooms, bathrooms and our laundry. There is a loft here that has huge potential for a library with millions of books. (on my DIY wish list)

Our bedroom is on the second level. If I had to choose that again I would be downstairs but we have a nice big space up here.

The boys don’t like sharing their personal spaces so I am taking you outside to our patio. We use a fire bowl quite a bit. Usually in the fall.

If you see on the house I like to put hooks between the windows for bird feeders. It’s truly entertaining.

The exterior of our home is rarely seen with snow but I love it covered in white. The paint color in Sherwin Williams Cocoon. Trim color is pure white and the brick, doors and along the roof line is painted in Urbane Bronze.

I hope you enjoyed a peek through my house. I will be sharing the never ending DIY projects as we go. Hope you stick around for more.

Mush love,
