Creative Nook Reveal

Hello!

I have a room reveal for you today and you might recognize some old pieces if you’ve been around awhile.

The workbench has followed me everywhere I’ve lived. I moved it to the nook off of our kitchen from the garage. Gave it a fresh coat of paint and stained the wood top a sheer black.

If this ends up working out in here I will consider something different for the countertop. The room is a bit of a catch all because the garage door/mudroom and the patio door are here. Our dining table is too big but it’s intended as a breakfast nook on our floor plan.

The table and chair here are thrifted. I painted that chair a couple of times to get the color right. It’s big and ornate, which I like. Painted chairs aren’t comfy but work for a quick place to sit and make notes, eat a meal or sip coffee. Not for movie night!

I got the shelf at Pottery Barn Outlet. This part feels like an extension of the kitchen with open shelving. I sit here for coffee and use it as a desk sometimes.

Old ladder against the wall with cafe curtains in the windows.

The room is a super eclectic mix of styles. Industrial and traditional? No need for labels, but this really speaks to my authentic way of living. I am a huge fan of a spaces that provide good function and use with a bit of personality.

Let me share how we’ve used this area so far.

  • Crafting projects
  • Floating island for bar/food/drinks when entertaining
  • Extra counter top space for baking with multiple cooks
  • Bar height dining table
  • Garage workbench
  • Dining
  • Desk

The island/bench bar has served us well and just keeps going. Did you know it was given to me from a friend in CT when we lived there? It came from the Engineering Dept at Yale University. Some students made it a very long time ago.

On the open shelf I store an old rusty container with birdseed, a milk crate of old t-shirts (currently to clean up paint projects & puppy feet) and a copper pot with faux fern to soften the look.

While thrifting I am always drawn to interesting storage, containers with lids.

I change my spaces up a lot. My friends point that out to me every time they stop by. Trying something new feels so good though, especially in your own comfortable environment.

Hope you enjoyed the views of this mixed use space. Come back some other time and it will be different. (lol)

Lately, I’ve been into self help, encouragement and sometimes a quick saying to focus on daily. It helps me stay in a positive mode. So I am sharing this with you and I hope you feel it too.
